Excerpt: ...of a similar story concerning this institution was twelve years ago; and this writer having accomplished both the article of that day and of this realizes--probahly more fully, than anybody else--how deeply etched twenty-five years are the facts of the rise and progress of this institution. We are telling this story in three forms: First, by the word method, generally as we are doing herewith; second, by tracing particularly the growth of the institution by recount dians, several of his close relatives having been killed in Indian warfare, and he himself having participated in every war that came his way. From the Indian wars he was a valiant Soldier in the war with Mexico, fought all through the war between the states, and it was not with a little difiiculty, it is related, that he was kept from an endeavor to do active service in the war with Spain. To and including James Grifiin Henderson is as far back as we may trace the Scotch-Irish ancestry of the Hendersons--and is as far back an example of their personality as we may review. In Louisiana, where James Griflin Henderson. became an active quantity in 1855, he was a saw and gin miller; in fact we know of no great iron works business in the country that has sprung so directly from the saw mill busi WILLIAM KENNON HENDERSON, PRESIDENT OF THE W.
